Pre-departure Workshop Series

Pre-Departure workshops are designed to prepare participants and team leaders for their Impact Experience. Participants and team leaders will enjoy various presentations, strengthen facilitation skills, learn about critical thinking and intercultural competence, and dialogue with their peers about their hopes and fears regarding their experience. These workshops are a great way to get to know your teammates, ask questions about your experience, and begin to learn about the culture and community in which you are about to be immersed.

Team Leader Training

Team Leader and Student Team Leader TrainingSunday October 20, 1:00pm – 5:00pm in UCC 210

This will provide you an opportunity to explore the program expectations, understand how to develop your team, connect with your community partners and facilitate the reflective process.

Sunday October 27 from 9:00am - 4:00pm in Chu Centre (IGAB 2N05)

Orientation is designed to prepare participants for their Impact Experience. Participants will enjoy various presentations, strengthen facilitation skills, learn about critical thinking and intercultural competence, and dialogue with their peers about their hopes and fears regarding their experience. These workshops are a great way to get to know your teammates, ask questions about your experience, and begin to learn about the culture and community in which you are about to be immersed.

Impact Experience Showcase

Tuesday November 12 from 10:00am – 3:00pm in UCC Atrium

This is your chance to share your experience with the wider Western Community. Your team will be asked to set up a display and take turns staffing the display.

Student Team Leader Selection 

Team Leaders are expected to participate in the selection of their Student Team Leaders. Student Team Leaders will be selected based on application, interview or carousel performance, and previous volunteer, Community Engaged Learning, and leadership experience.

On Saturday October 19 from 9:00am - 12:00pm we will meet in UCC 210 for the Student Team Leader Carousel Interview process.
